PHASE
SIX:
ADVANCED FRAMING
The
showcase house incorporates advanced framing techniques which help
reduce the amount of material used to build the house as well as
provide more space for insulation. The exterior walls are framed
with 2x6 studs at 24” on center, allowing for a thicker insulation
layer with fewer interruptions. The door and window headers are
designed to adequately support the structure without being
oversized. There is a layer of foam board in all the exterior
headers for added insulation.

All
corners are open construction, allowing for insulation
to completely fill the cavity, eliminating any cold spots
in the exterior walls.
Additional
advanced framing features include
the I Joist floor structure and elimination of
structural headers in non-load bearing walls,
visible in the center of this photo.
Structural
studs are made of finger-joined lumber rather and solid material,
making better use of resources by using smaller pieces of material
which are assembled into straight, strong boards.
